SIL T10 – Remove Mould From Your Building

Bothered by Mould? SIL –T 10 is a an anti-microbial wash that can be used to eradicate mould in your building. Not only does mould look bad, but it can have a detrimental health effect on anyone living in the building.

Unsightly mould on building materials leads to decay in the whole fabric of the structure. The growth of mould on and in buildings is a constant issue and it is caused by building materials, such as stonework, plaster work and all other types of natural building materials.

This anti microbial wash has been proven to be effective in eradicating the most common moulds, algae and yeasts found in Western Europe.

Where to Use It

The product is suitable for use on brick, mortar, sandstone, granite, mineral plaster, concrete, marble, limestone, concrete and bitumen. The product is suitable for removing growth from patios etc.

SIL T12 brick, mortar, sandstone, granite, mineral plaster and concrete

SIL T12 is suitable for use on brick, mortar, sandstone, granite, mineral plaster and concrete. It is not suitable for use on dense natural stone such as marble and limestone. It is not suggested for use on reinforced concrete.

SIL T12 greatly reduces the capillary absorption of water but it does not seal the pores or capillaries and therefore does not affect the breathability of the structure.

Benefit of Using SIL T12

Water vapour can escape unhindered from the masonry and any damp can dry out. The natural diffusion water vapour permeability of the building is not affected.

SIL-T12 has characteristics that allow it to be applied to vertical surfaces and enable you to apply the required volume and weight in a single operation.

Key features of SIL-T12 include:

  • Outstanding penetration
  • Excellent water repellancy
  • Excellent resistance to alkalis
  • Excellent hold on horizontal surfaces
  • Rapid tack free drying
  • No change in the colour of the materials treated.

Capillary Water Uptake: 

When mineral building materials come into contact with water, depending on the materials porosity, some water will be absorbed. The absorption of water depends mainly on the radius of the capillary pores in the building material. There are three pore categories:

  • Micropores. These do not permit capillary transport of water & are impervious to water
  • Macropores (capillary pores). These pores are able to transport water within the building material
  • Air pores. These large pores are typically unable to transport water by capillary action

The result of this water absorption may result in the following damage:

  • Cracking due to the expansion & contraction of water
  • Frost damage
  • Dirt pickup
  • Attack by fungi, moss and lichen
  • Impairment of thermal insulation

SIL-T14 for brick, mortar, sandstone, granite, mineral plaster & concrete

SIL-T14 is suitable for use on brick, mortar, sandstone, granite, mineral plaster and concrete. It is not suitable for use on dense natural stone such as marble and limestone. It is also not suggested for use on reinforced concrete.

SIL-T20 For Brick Natural Stone & absorbant building material

SIL-T20 is suitable for use on brick, natural stone or any absorbant building material. By saturating the building material with the product, the original strength and porosity of the building material can be restored. 

Stone Conservation

Stone varies in its chemical composition and mineralogical structure. Its weatherability and durability will also vary, the deterioration being triggered by water absorption and pollutants. The porosity of the stone is the critical factor. There are several types of deterioration including:

  • Mechanical Corrosion
  • Freeze thaw damage
  • Salt damage
  • Swelling and Shrinkage
  • Chemical Corrosion
  • Loss of binder through salt formation
  • Rearrangement of binder through crust formation
  • Biological Corrosion
  • Attack by algae, lichen, moss and bacteria.

SIL 20 must only be applied to mineral building materials which are thoroughly clean. The areas to be treated must be cleaned with warm water or preferably by steam cleaning.

How SIL-T20 Works

SIL-T20 is a formulated silicate impregnating agent for use in the consolidating and strengthening of friable structural building materials. When applied, it penetrates through the capillaries of the construction materials. The product reacts with atmospheric moisture forming a silica gel adhesive which binds the building material. Under standard conditions (20°C / 50% R.H), the final hardness is reached in about 10 days.

  • Very easy to use
  • Excellent depth of penetration
  • Does not seal the pores in the stonework
  • Original strength of the stonework can be restored
  • Water vapour permeability of the building is not affected.

General Processing Guidelines: 

SIL-T20 should be applied only after the following has been determined:

  • Determine the exact state of the building material
  • Mark out a large test area and after application, examine the area for marking, discolouration etc
  • Using the test area, establish consumption per square metre
  • Monitor the application process and continue to check the results obtained.
